Fabric sheets to print at home
Share
Want to print on fabric at home? It’s possible thanks to ready-to-use printable fabric sheets. These sheets allow you to easily print photos, images, and patterns on fabric, to incorporate into your creative projects. They are available in several types of fabric, and are easy to use: just slide them into your printer! One drawback, regarding dimensions, at the fabric size level, we are limited by the size of the printer.
To print on fabric at home, you need:
- a common inkjet printer (for example HP, Canon…). Laser printers are not suitable for printing on fabric.
- A pack of printable fabric sheets
- A computer and digitized images
Printable fabric sheets: what exactly are they?
They are fabric previously treated to ensure perfect print quality, glued onto a support paper and cut to the standard size accepted by common printers (A4 or Letter).
Be careful, these printable sheets are different from transfer paper : with the latter, you print the image on special transfer paper, then transfer it to the fabric, as the name indicates, under the effect of heat, using an iron or a heat press iron. The image is reproduced in mirror, so you must be careful to reverse it before printing. Once the image is transferred to the fabric, you often feel a somewhat plasticized or cardboard-like texture to the touch.
With printable fabric sheets, you print directly on the fabric. The inks from inkjet printers penetrate the fabric, and the fabric surface remains soft to the touch.
In general, inks from common inkjet printers do not resist water well, except for pigment-based inks. The printed fabric can be wet but not really washed, though there are exceptions.

Which printable fabric sheets to choose?
Cotton percale sheets
These are the most used sheets, because this versatile fabric is used for many projects.
- The fabric with a smooth texture, bright white, gives excellent print quality with vivid colors.
- Easy to print.
- Easy hand and machine sewing and quilting, the fabric frays very little.
- the most economical product among ready-to-use printable sheets
I have completed many projects with Jacquard printable sheets, available here.
Cotton poplin sheets
A white and smooth fabric that prints very well, similar to the previous one.
The printable inkjet sheets from the Threads brand, available here, benefit from a fabric treatment that allows colors to hold up in washing, a plus for projects intended to be washed.
Natural silk sheets
Natural silk is smooth and shiny, a little less white than cotton. Colors saturate less because the fabric is thinner, but the result is very beautiful. The cost is higher than cotton.
The Jacquard sheets, available here, are made of pongee silk.
Silk organdy
A 100% silk fabric, with body, all transparency and lightness!
- Visible print identical on both sides.
- Perfect for layering effects, period doll dresses…
